Ministry Of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) has approved a sum of Two Million Eight Hundred Ninety Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty Kwacha -(K2,890,320) for Skills Development Bursary beneficiaries under the 2024 Constituency Development Funds.
This comes after the Local Authority submitted a list of applicants for approval to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through the Provincial Local Government office in Mongu.
A total number of 137 beneficiaries have been selected around the district and are going to pursue skill related courses such as bricklaying, computer studies, electrical technology, driving, food production, fashion and design and agriculture from different trade schools around the country.
The courses will be undertaken within a period of 3months to 3years depending on each individual, with the lowest tuition fee per term being K4000 and the highest K7900.
Lukulu Town Council received 264 applications and 127 applicants were left out pertaining to the fact that they could not meet the required criteria, such as meeting the youthful age, not applying to TEVETA accredited schools, not applying for accredited courses and not attaching acceptance letters.
However, the local authority is still engaging the left-out applicants in order to meet the required criteria so that they are considered for the bursary.
The local authority has also observed a low turnout on applications from females in the district. Out of 137 successful applicants only 18 are female. Hence, females are encouraged to take advantage of this component of CDF so that they acquire various skills to better their lives.
The local authority is requesting all successful applicants to collect introductory letters to be given to various schools as they report.
