Lukulu Town Council Women donated assorted goods in hampers to patients in all the wards of Lukulu district hospital.
Commemorating Women’s activism week in readiness for International Women’s Day which fell on 8th March, 2024, Lukulu Council Women came with an initiative to contribute funds and raise more through a fundraising walk which took place from old market to new market area on Friday, 1st March, 2024 in order to donate to the patients in the female ward.
However, the hampers managed to carter for all the wards namely Female, Children, Maternity and Male Wards.
During the walk some items were received in kind such as soya chunks, body Vaseline, milk, baby attire, rice and sweet potatoes.
The team also managed to raise funds which were used to purchase various items such as juice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, bathing soap, washing soap and tissue. Each hamper contained the said items.
The hampers were donated to the district hospital by Lukulu Town Council Women led by the Chairperson Ms. Agnes Mwanza, the Human Resource Officer (HRO).
On handing over the hampers, Ms. Mwanza said the women came up with an initiative to support fellow women, the sick and those nursing in the hospital in respect of this year’s international Women’s Day Celebrations.
The team was welcomed by the nurses on duty Mr. Mwiya and Mrs. Sarah Kautingu. Mr. Mwiya who represented the management, thanked the donating team for such a generous idea.
He said visiting patients and especially bringing them something was a sign of love and that in itself contributes to one’s healing.
He was grateful to the group especially that it was the first time he was experiencing such a gesture from women from a government institution. He encouraged the women to continue with such a spirit and do more going forward.
In light of the above, Lukulu Town Council Women would like to thank everyone who contributed towards the fundraising walk as well as thank the Lukulu District Hospital members of staff Mrs. Sarah Kautingu and Mr. Mwiya including all the officers who were on duty in all 4 wards for the warm welcome.
Lukulu Town Council Women joined the rest of the world in commemorating international women’s day on Friday 8th March, 2024 under the theme: Invest in Women and Girls: Accelerate Progress.
