KAŃOTI WARD COUNCILLOR RETAINS DEPUTY COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON POSITION

Councillor Kashokela Ndilayi Casting his Vote
Councillor Ndilayi Kashokela of Kan’oti Ward has retained his position as Deputy Council Chairperson.
This was after conducting elections during a Special Ordinary Council meeting held in the Council Chamber yesterday, Wednesday 6th March 2024.
Three Councillors namely, Councillor Kapanji Seke of Mwito Ward, Councillor Ndilayi Kashokela of Kańoti Ward and Councillor Titus Kashweka of Kashamba ward contested for the elections.
20 Councillors had cast their votes secretly. The votes were publicly counted and announced by the returning officer Mr. Phinias Mtonga. He later announced and declared Councillor Ndilayi as the winner after scooping the highest number of votes.
Councillor Ndilayi thanked the Councillors for having the confidence of voting for him for the second time. He encouraged the councilors to continue working together as a team to deliver services and development to the people of Lukulu.
According to Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 of the Laws of Zambia, the Deputy Council Chairperson tenure came to an end on 15th February, 2024 hence the elections being conducted.
On the other hand, two Councillors namely Councillor Boyd Shafweka of Ngimbu Ward and Councillor Kapanji Seke of Mwito Ward were also voted in to be part of the new Constituency Development Fund Committee – CDFC as the old one was dissolved on 15th February,2024.
Other Members nominated to the CDFC Committee by the Member of Parliament are: Mr. Kakeni Siankule, Reverend Raphael Kapeshi, Mr. James Sakuwaha, Mrs. Fridah Namangolwa, and Councillor Mark Mkushi of Dongwe Ward.
The Special Ordinary Council Meeting was attended by various Heads of Government Departments, officers and members of the community.
