Supplementing Government efforts in having access to Education, ActionAid Zambia through the Interim Country Director Ms. Jovina Nawenzake earlier last week handed over a 1×2 Classroom block to Ministry of Education at Suulu Primary School of Mwandi Ward in Lukulu District.
The Organization also filled in the two new classrooms with 50 school desks so as to have no pupils sit on the floor whilst learning in accordance with the Presidential directive.
Ms. Jovina stated that the classroom block was constructed at a total cost of Five Hundred Eighty Nine Thousand Kwacha – K589,000.00 whilst the desks were procured at a cost of Eighty Five Thousand Kwacha – K85,000.00
She said ActionAid advocates for access to Education hence the construction of the block in order for Suulu Community to exercise their right to education and end poverty in the communities.
She was thankful to Suulu Community for the support and most of all thankful to the Government for creating an enabling environment for civil society organisations to operate freely in Lukulu.
Speaking during the event, Guest of honour, Acting District Administration Officer (DAO) Mr. Mwansa thanked the organisation for supplementing Government efforts to provide a conducive learning environment.
Suulu Primary School was Established in 2015 as a community school and was later on Gazetted in 2019.
The school currently has 226 pupils from grade 1-6.This is the first permanent block as the school has been operating in a pole and mud Classroom.
Witnessing the event was DEBS Office Representative Mr. Kamwengo, Suulu Headmistress Ms. Monde, Suulu School Members of staff, ActionAid Officers, Suulu Community, among other officials.
ActionAid will also be implementing water reticulation systems in other wards of lukulu as well as support economic growth by giving start up seed of K2500 to 31 Savings and Internal Lending Communities -SILC in Lukulu District.
