58.3 MILLION KWACHA APPROVED BY MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT AS LUKULU COUNCIL 2024 BUDGET

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) through Hon. Minister Garry Nkombo has approved Lukulu Town Council ‘s 2024 Budget amounting to Fifty Eighty Million Three Hundred Thirty Six Thousand Three Hundred Forty Six Kwacha (K58,336,346).
Last year, the Council worked with a budget of Forty Three Million Eight Hundred Thirty Six Thousand Four Hundred Thirty Four Kwacha (K43, 836, 434) representing a percentage increase of 33% in comparison to this year’s budget.
The Local Authority submitted the 2024 budget to the Ministry for approval after it was adopted during a Special Full Council Meeting that was held in the Council Chamber on Friday, 23rd December, 2023.
In support of this year’s budget, the Council plans to collect a total of K2,556,790 from local Taxes, fees, Licences, profits from Council Ventures and revenue from Devolved functions as well as a K200,000 as Grants in Lieu of rates.
This budget will also be supported by Central Government though increased Constituency Development Funds (CDF) from K28.3 Million to K30.6 Million, Local Government Equalisation Funds from K12,905,160 to K13,553,160, a Grant of K3, 720, 000 from Zambia Devolution Support Programme, a Grant of K3,742,847.05 under Vehicle Licensing and another Grant under Devolved Functions of K3,927,907.
This year, CDF will be used to implement capital projects as requested by the community, empower women, youths and the community through school bursaries, Grants and loans.
The Local Authority looks forwards to maintaining local roads and drainages using the vehicle licensing Grant.
In terms of Prominent Capital projects to be supported by the basic grant, the Local Authority will Construct a filling station to address the district ‘s fuel challenges and also improve the newly constructed Business Complex by enhancing security through mounting security lights and fencing the bus station.
The youths will also be supported through sponsoring a local football club.
The Local Authority calls on stakeholders to work together with the Council as this year ‘s budget gets implemented.
