The agricultural extension arm of Lukulu Town Council focusing on improving animal production and fisheries management
The Fisheries and Livestock Department is the agricultural extension arm of Lukulu Town Council that focuses on improving animal production and fisheries management.
We play a vital role in enhancing food security, supporting livelihoods, and promoting sustainable use of natural resources within the district.
Our department works closely with farmers, fishers, cooperatives, and stakeholders to improve productivity, ensure animal health, and promote environmentally responsible practices for sustainable development.
The department is headed by the District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator, who provides leadership and oversight across all livestock and fisheries programs.
Under this leadership, the department implements strategic initiatives to support our communities:
Supporting cattle, goats, poultry, and other livestock production, including disease control and veterinary services.
Promoting sustainable fishing practices, aquaculture development, and conservation of fish resources.
Providing vaccination, disease surveillance, and extension support to farmers and livestock keepers.
Ensuring sustainable use of grazing lands, water bodies, and fish breeding areas for future generations.
Offering education, demonstrations, and technical support to livestock farmers and fishers.
Facilitating farmer cooperatives, market linkages, and value chain development for livestock and fish products.
Through these functions, the Fisheries and Livestock Department contributes to Lukulu District's economic growth, food security, and community resilience.
By integrating modern techniques with traditional knowledge, the department ensures that livestock and fisheries resources are managed sustainably for the benefit of current and future generations.
