The financial management hub of the Council, safeguarding public resources for sustainable development
The Finance Department is the financial management hub of the Council, responsible for safeguarding public resources and ensuring that funds are used transparently and effectively to support service delivery and development.
We play a critical role in maintaining accountability, promoting efficiency, and enabling the Council to achieve its goals through sound financial management.
Our department ensures that all financial transactions comply with statutory requirements and reflect the principles of good governance, building trust with the community through transparent financial practices.
The department is headed by the Director of Finance, who provides leadership and oversight of all financial operations.
Under this guidance, the Finance Department manages key functions that ensure fiscal responsibility:
Managing council income from rates, levies, licenses, and other sources to ensure sustainable funding for public services.
Preparing annual budgets, monitoring expenditures, and aligning financial resources with development priorities.
Producing accurate and timely reports to support decision-making and maintain transparency with stakeholders.
Ensuring that spending is authorized, efficient, and in line with council policies and budgetary allocations.
Safeguarding council assets and ensuring responsible use of funds through proper accounting and controls.
Ensuring all financial activities comply with statutory requirements and principles of good governance.
Maintaining open and accessible financial records for public scrutiny and trust.
Taking responsibility for financial decisions and their impact on the community.
Ensuring financial practices support long-term development and resource preservation.
Upholding the highest ethical standards in all financial operations and reporting.
Through its work, the Finance Department strengthens the Council's capacity to deliver services, supports sustainable development, and builds trust with the community by upholding transparency and accountability in financial management.
